Since college days, my professor in Constitution always talks about investing in stock markets, treasury bonds and mutual funds. During that time, I thought it was some kind of marketing strategy for some networking companies. I didn’t care because I really had no idea what she was talking about.
Around December of 2009, I heard my officemate talking about how he profited from his investments. I got curious. I asked what was his business all about. He just answered back, “I owned 20,000 shares of Meg, I sold half of it and gained 10% profit.” Wow, I was astonished, I didn’t believe that someone sitting in front of me can be a shareholder of a company, even though he’s not making decisions for the company, but he still owns 10,000 shares.
After hearing his story and explanation on stocks, it occurred to me that I’ve been wasting my time since I first heard about investing. I already lost around 7 years of being financially illiterate, which could have profited millions.
I then started attending different seminars regarding stock market, one of which was conducted by CitisecOnline.com, an online broker that helps investors trade in the comfort of the internet. They offer free seminars on the “how to” of stocks, like fundamental and technical analysis, other seminars are also available.
I think It’s time to be serious in investing especially that the recession crisis is almost over and with the new administration. Everyone is being optimistic which can result in a positive market.
